In Richmond, every 8 to12 weeks during pollen season (February to November) if you park under trees. Get the undercarriage rinsed once after the first hard freeze too that is when road brine has had time to sit.

A basic wash runs about 30 to 45 minutes. A full detail takes 2 to 4 hours depending on condition. Ceramic coating takes longer since it needs real cure time.
Most of the time, yes pet hair, mud, bonded pine sap, set in stains. Some things (deep-set odor, heavily oxidized paint) take more than one pass, & we will tell you that up front rather than promise a miracle.
We recommend booking ahead, especially for full details, but call first we can often fit in a same day basic wash if we are not booked solid.

A wash is exterior only, usually under an hour. A full detail covers interior & exterior, including shampooing, steam cleaning, and protection it is a different job, not a longer version of the same one.
